Rif: borgomale – He probably hosted Pope Pius VII while traveling to France for the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte; in its halls the tragedy of “Nella” took place, a young lady confined by the feudal lord Lionello. Located in a strategic position between Alba and the hills of the Alta Langa, in the heart of the UNESCO heritage and a landscape known for its extraordinary natural beauty and prestigious wines, the medieval Castle of Borgomale is a monument of historical interest and also national monument of the Alta Langa, suitable for the transformation into a luxury accommodation facility or for a charming private residence, located 15 km from Alba and on the provincial road that connects it to Cortemilia. The origins of the Borgomale Castle distributed today on 2000 square meters, with a court of honor and free land on three sides, date back to the 9th century, when it was mentioned as a fortification belonging to the Bishop of Asti. Over the centuries it was enlarged and improved, and with the passage of time it became the seat of powerful local nobles such as the Marquis of Vasto, the Marquis of Ceva and Cortemilia and Del Carretto di Gorzegno and others. The original structure had five towers and a drawbridge which was later replaced in the 1700s by an elevated covered walkway present today. The Castle has recently undergone a substantial structural restructuring which has mostly affected the roof. On the main square of Borgomale, a large wooden door allows access to the internal courtyard and garden / park (approximately 7000 square meters). The Castle is accessed through the cellars on the ground floor or through a large covered loggia which leads directly to the third floor which houses the noble apartments spread over two other floors. The interiors are characterized by high vaulted ceilings and various fireplaces in each room. A magnificent central stone staircase leads to a panoramic roof terrace with unparalleled views of the surrounding greenery.
